CANVVS has teamed up with Sky to create 20 limited-edition pairs of exclusive sneakers inspired by the outfit worn by Lashana Lynch’s character Bianca throughout the thrilling new TV series The Day of the Jackal.
The sneakers are inspired by the MI6 arms specialist’s look throughout the hit show, where Lynch's character Bianca wears Nike’s Air Max ’95. To celebrate this, 20 pairs have been customised by London sneaker artist Aida Kiraya aka Afro Kickz, part of the CANVVS community.
The footwear will go on display from today (14 November), ahead of the new CANVVS store officially opening on Oxford Street in London. Sneakerheads can see the exclusive designs and how they were made on our social media platforms.
Designer Kiraya said:
“When I got the call from CANVVS to say that Sky wanted me to help customise the trainers I was very happy. My overall aim has always been to blend traditional African culture with modern black style in my designs, so I’ve tried to do that with these sneakers – inspired by watching Lashana in the series of course!
Head of Marketing at Sky Entertainment, Lucy Johnstone said: “We’re thrilled to partner with CANVVS and Afro Kickz to bring these unique, custom-made sneakers to life, inspired by a powerful character like Bianca from The Day of the Jackal. This collaboration perfectly showcases the spirit of CANVVS - where creativity, individuality, and storytelling come together through custom sneaker design. We can’t wait for fans and sneaker enthusiasts to see these exclusive pieces"
CANVVS founder Alex Murray said: “CANVVS was created by and for the next generation of sneaker creators alongside the established names in the industry. Our thanks go to Sky for helping us on this journey. By pairing Aida with The Day of the Jackal and then showcasing her work online, it adds to our overall goal of championing sneaker art plus the creators, culture and communities behind them. As does featuring the actual finished product in our forthcoming London store.”
The CANVVS store launch is part of Westminster City Council’s Meanwhile On project, set up to provide innovative brands with access to high-profile retail spaces. The project gives brands significant relief on business rates, budget for store design, and end-to-end support from project delivery partner Someday Studios. The store is offered at reduced rent, thanks to support from landlord Places for London - The TfL Property Company
