We’re pretty certain that the sneaker community as a whole has been affected by Virgil Abloh’s work in more ways than one. From the early days of PYREX and putting a real mark on streetwear as it started to rise into a regularly talked about subject, to Virgil’s outstanding work with Louis Vuitton and completely changing the game with the many OFF-WHITE x Nike collaborations through the current years.
Virgil really cemented himself in all subcultures surrounding sneakers. Design, music, fashion and footwear, Virgil portrayed a new way of thinking and with this completely took over in the projects he established. The impact Virgil had empowered artists and specifically, the next wave of sneaker customisers. Virgil gave people the power to think that anything is possible and that sneakers should be treated like a canvas, chopping and changing, even making the slightest of changes can completely reshape the silhouette and the story it tells.
